Each season the Poconos lives up to its promise... the spring is fresh, lively and green; the summer fragrant, warm and inviting; the fall plentiful, colorful and sweet; and the winter pure, silent and majestic. Festivals, activities, indoor and outdoor life never slow.
Hundreds of events and activities take place in the Pocono Mountains each year. Music or ethnic festivals, holiday celebrations, sidewalk sales, whitewater rafting days and NASCAR are some of the exciting events that make the Poconos so popular.

During the Festival of Lights, the Phifer Ice dam Park takes on a magical holiday glow with more than 400,000 lights in a giant outdoor walk-through display as the sounds of the season are heard throughout the park. Santa will appear at the festival nightly up until Christmas. The festival will continue December 4-6, 11-13, 19-23 and 27-28, 2009. Donation of $4 for adults and $1 children 6-12 years. Children under 6 are free. The festival will be held from 5:15-9pm.
Historic Honesdale offers up its famous holiday hospitality beginning with the annual Santa Parade Friday night at 6pm followed immediately by the tree lighting ceremony in Central Park. Stores host "Open Houses" with seasonal hospitality for their shoppers and visitors into December and there are other exciting family events to look forward to as well. On Saturday a special train ride will be offered from the Visitors Center at 10am. Tickets for the ride are $15 per person. Please call the Chamber of Commerce for tickets.
Learn the art of making glass beads with a torch and rods of glass. Beads are a big hobby right now, and lampwork beads are the best. When you can make the gorgeous focals, you will be able to make great jewelry. The cost of this class is $40 per hour with a three hour minimum for a private lesson. Open studio tours are available everyday from 1-3pm.
Take an introductory class with and make a suncatcher. Spend one on one class time, in the studio, with Nic the master artist. The cost of the class is $35 per hour with a three hour minimum for a private lesson. Price does not include materials. Open studio tours everyday from 1-3pm.

All anglers interested in landing a monster trout and winning one of 100 prizes should be fishing the Lackawaxen River. In addition to the thousands of fish stocked by the PA Fish and Boat Commission, the Lackawaxen Township Business Owners Association will stock 100 five to ten pound trout between The Settler's Inn in Hawley and the Zane Gray Bridge in Lackawaxen. This is the third year for the hugely successful Monster Trout Derby. There is no entry fee or pre-sign up. Just go fishing, get lucky and win a prize. All fish are tagged and the tag numbers corresponds with each fish's sponsor.
The "Scranton Limited" short rain rides will continue operating Wednesdays through Sundays. There is a $3 charge for this ride, all ages 6 and older, in addition to the daily park entrance fee. The park entrance fee at Steamtown NHS is just $6 per adult, ages 17 and older. Children under age 16, accompanied by an adult, are admitted to the park at no cost. The entrance fee includes parking and access to the outdoor grounds, the museum complex, walking tours and the park movie, "Steel and Steam." These 30-minute train rides depart from the Core Complex boarding area at 10:30am and 11:30am, and 1:30pm and 2:15pm, operating with a historic diesel locomotive on Wednesdays.
Join a costumed GhostGuide for intriguing tales of ghoulish encounters along Broadway. Start at the Inn at Jim Thorpe. Cover a mile roundtrip to the Old Jail, approximately one hour, outdoors. Walk-ins welcome, reservations strongly recommended. Tickets available from the GhostHost in the lobby of the Inn 15 min before walk. Adults/$10, children 7-12/$5.

A Magical Fireside Christmas will be a celebration unlike any other. SOLD OUT. Steamtown National Historic Site will offer the popular "Holiday Express" steam-powered excursions to Moscow this holiday season. Excursions will depart the Steamtown NHS boarding platform at 11am and are scheduled to return at 2pm. This popular, family-friendly event costs $16 for ages 17 and older and $10 for children ages 1-16. Children 12 months and younger require a "no-charge" ticket.
Armed with 2 guitars, baritone vocals, claw-hammer banjo, and fiddling, singing, and flat-footin' (a form of clog-dancing), he serves his audience an acoustic buffet of traditional American and original folk, ole time mountain music, bluegrass and gospel tunes, as well as coal mining songs of Northeast Pennsylvania. Tickets are $13. Doors open at 7:30pm and the show begins at 8:30pm.
Doug Ace, author of Reflections on the Way, will be signing books in the store. Book Cellar will offer a 10% discount on select purchases during this event. The signing will be held from noon-3pm.
With nearly 400 shows and tens of thousands of road miles now behind them, Railroad Earth has become a staple on the national touring and festival scene, and built a huge following of loyal fans that document and trade every note they play, and often join them on the road for multiple nights. Tickets for the concert are $30 for Friday or Saturday night performances. Two day passes are available for $50. Doors open at 7pm and the show will begin at 8pm.

Get into the holiday spirit at the annual Tree Lighting in Courthouse Square. Festivities will begin with traditional Christmas carols, followed by the lighting of the tree by the mayor of Stroudsburg. Then, to the delight of all the children, Santa Claus arrives in Downtown Stroudsburg. Following the tree lighting, enjoy the beautiful Christmas decorations as you stroll through Stroudsburg's charming downtown, or enjoy a ride around town the old fashion way in a horse-drawn carriage.
A tribute to the Tran Siberian Orchestra. Tickets are $20 per person. Two shows in the Gypsies Nightclub and Lounge at 8pm and 10pm.

11/21/2009The two-day indoor festival at Split Rock Resort and Golf Club will feature close to 30 of America's finest classic and micro-breweries offering tastes of their latest brews. Musical entertainment will be performed on two different stages, while crafts and artwork will be on exhibition and for sale. Each attendee will receive a commemorative beer tasting glass to take home and be at least 21 years of age to enter. Seminars on various beer related topics will be featured throughout the festival.
